Kaigan Aikido Dojo’s chief instructor is Dr. Candice Dugmore who holds the rank of 4th degree black belt. She started her martial arts training in Australia with Kung-Fu in 1998. After moving home to South Africa, she began Aikido in 2002. She has passionately pursued the art and travelled extensively overseas to learn from the masters of aikido. Candice received her shodan (1st degree black belt) in 2007 and nidan (2nd degree black belt) in 2012. In 2013 she travelled to St. Petersburg, Russia, to represent South Africa and participate in the World Combat Games.
In 2015 she received her sandan(3rd degree black belt, and travelled to Italy to participate in South Africa's demonstration at Tada Sensei's 50th anniversary celebration of Aikido in Italy.
In 2016 Candice Sensei attended the Week long IAF (International Aikido Federation) Event and performed the demonstration on behalf of South Africa. She has also served on the AFSA(Aikido Federation of South Africa) executive committee as a Vice-Chairman.
In 2019 she received her 4th Dan and is the highest ranking woman in South Africa and most likely in all of the African continent. She is also the only woman in South Africa to run her own AIkido dojo.
